It came out of nowhere. Memories of her previous life came flooding back, and in the middle of all that confusion, Chloe realised something she’d have very much preferred not to: this is the world of an otome game. One she used to play.
In that game, Chloe wastes away in a sickbed and dies at the tender age of twenty-five.
Leaving her beloved daughter behind.
And then her husband moves a new wife into the mansion Chloe has vacated, along with a child barely any older than the daughter she left. That child is the ‘Heroine.’
A commoner girl becomes a noble and catches a prince’s eye. That’s the story. But the stage is only set once Chloe, the mistress of the house, is dead; once her husband holds the reins; once he ushers his lover and her daughter through the front door.
That’s right. This story opens on Chloe’s death.
Except nobody falls ill that conveniently, right on cue. Her death, as it turns out, was arranged.
By her husband. By Leonardo.
‘You have got to be kidding me. Like I’m going to sit here and let myself be killed.’
Playing the sacrificial offering in somebody else’s love story? No, thank you. And so Chloe sets out to dodge her fate.
