Chapter 60-1: Deep as the Ocean of Seiris

[Both of you get back. <Fire Javelin>.]

.

Sybilla immediately used an offensive magic after seeing the monster that appeared in the beach killing it off with just a single blow.

People around us start to cheer and applause as Sybilla receives it with a smile while showing a ‘V’ with her fingers.

.

[Woooah… More importantly, now that’s a bombshell…] [Her magic is amazing too…][Ah, the goddess of the beach has descended…]

.

Now you’re getting already recognized as a full fledged goddess, aren’t you, Goddess-sama? Now don’t you dare to even wave back.

.

Let’s get things straight. To stand out is not half of what is Sybilla’s true intentions.

IT IS NINETY PERCENT, and the importance of being able to hide her real identity is around ten percent, or something like that and I can’t be convinced otherwise.

.

Sybilla then starts to pull out the horn of the rabbit down to its roots with all of her strength before picking up the hornless giant rabbit and heading to one of the nearby stalls.

They talk for a bit then she hands out the rabbit to the stall owner before heading back to our side. Seems like she made a good sale.

.

[Good job out there, Sybilla.]

[…]

[Why the heck are you ignoring me, oi.]

[Hm, yeah. No, nothing much. I am just curious what that rabbit was all about.]

[…You sure? Are you alright?]

.

Seeing Sybilla for the first time so disheartened unlike ever before can make even me get worried.

She’s the type of girl who wears her heart out of her sleeve while being calm and open minded after all. But that is certainly not the case right now.

.

[Sybilla-san, ettooo, thank you for your hard work.]

[It’s fine, really. Emmy-chan can’t show her brightest without her shield and Russell can’t certainly use ‘that’ in this place crowded by people, no? It’s times like these where a secondary unit like me where you two can’t fully maximize your abilities that I have to fight, isn’t it?]

.

Secondary unit, she said… Aren’t you at the very least level 30? That’s a level similar already to powerhouses.

It’s just been a few days but before I knew it… No, didn’t her level rise as well back when she ate the dragon’s heart with me…

.

Well then, I have a clue why Sybilla’s disheartened like this so let’s confirm it right away.

.

[Sybilla, is the appearance of the monster earlier outside of your expectations?]

.

Considering how a dungeon scarlet bat appeared in Adoria, then for a monster to appear in a beach is not certainly impossible but…

Sybilla listens to my question and puts her hand on top of her mouth as she thinks about it.

.

[It shouldn’t be possible. The first, second, and third dungeons of Seiris have fences around them to prevent any monsters from breaking out. I have confirmed as well that the people looking out on these places are very capable. The person who’s guarding the entrance of the third dungeon is a [Thief], you know?]

[You can tell?]

[Through his scent and equipment. I am sure he is fast enough to inform the guild in any case of emergency.]

.

So that’s the gatekeepers’ roles supposed to be, huh. Someone who should be quick on his feet so he can ask immediately for help in case of emergency. So the gatekeeper back then isn’t just an ordinary person.

It only took Sybilla a single glance to understand these things but it appears that she has no lead this time.

.

[It’s a monster from the second dungeon so it is normal to think that it came from there but… I don’t really understand just how that monster was able to come in here.]

[Is that really the case? Aren’t there any other possibilities?]

[The possibility of the monster being defeated by guards before it could reach the beach is eight or nine out of ten. Just hearing the word ‘guards’ is enough to make Eve-chan tremble, no?]

.

Now that she mentions it, we really did talk with Eve how tough and strict the Seiris guards are.

There’s no way those guards would leave a wandering monster alone.

.

[….Nnnn~… Maa, let it be then.]

.

At the end, Sybilla vaguely concluded as she walks with her arms cross not saying even a single word towards the shade of a wide cliff.

Her face does not have any trace of embarrassment or frustration, rather, it’s calm and tranquil.

.

With the person we are worried about the most, Sybilla, urging us, I and Emmy jump on to the sea and have fun checking the things that can only be found in the waters.

Sybilla wanders inside the shade of the rock as I immerse myself actually experiencing the things that were just previously a part of the knowledge I heard and taught to me by Jannet and admire these creatures now that I can actually see and touch them.

.

There’s this little incident too where Emmy picks up a creature that looks like a star when she suddenly screams and throws it away. Even I found myself uttering [Woahh] in surprise seeing it actually move.

Even for me who has encountered many kinds of monsters already, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the sea is full of strange creatures, isn’t it…

.

…The day fully passed and Sybilla did not even once enter the sea.

.

.

.

[You’ve played to your hearts’ content, no?]

.

We’ve played all day and rinse ourselves using the beach’s facility. Perhaps it uses a water magic stone as I can feel my body getting thoroughly cleansed.

Seiris is a city of the seas. That’s why even if we walk to the inn while still in our swimsuits, we won’t stand out.

.

[Nee, Sybilla-san.]

[N? Whaaat’s up, Emmy-chan?]

[I always admire how Sybilla-san is so smart and awesome but this situation feels really hard to figure out even for you, isn’t it? Just how hard will it take for this to be solved then.]

.

Emmy asks Sybilla concerning the thing she’s been thinking about all this time.

I am curious about it as well. For Sybilla to think this deep for such a long time, I can’t imagine what is bothering her.

.

[I see. Putting the dungeons outside of the equation, this is just frustratingly difficult.]

.

Contrary to my expectations, it appears that Sybilla has already given up on the rabbit.

.

[Nee~ the Demon Lord disappear from the bottom level without meeting us, no? Furthermore, there are no other paths that can be used in the bottom level… In other words, the Demon Lord either passed through or used ‘Dungeon Make’ to make a path on the wall.]

.

Yeah. I thought the same as well that it really was weird that we did not bump into the Demon Lord if he left the dungeon from the bottom level.

I didn’t think of the possibility of the demon lord using the walls to make a path but it seems demon lords are capable of destroying and remaking the dungeon as they like.

.

[So, on the way back I used <Magic Detect> just in case, you know. However, I did not detect even a shadow that would resemble the Demon Lord.]

.

…So that happened, huh. Back then, we were running at full speed but she still managed to think of using Magic Detect.

.

[Then, what’s just left is only one other possibility.]

[…That is?]

[If you want to hide a tree, put it in a forest. If so… where would you hide a human-like creature then?]

.

….!

.

Me and Emmy’s eyes widen and we look at our surroundings.

There are ordinary people, a passerby who returns our gazes, customers and stall owners, and yesterday’s… Ah, the seller of the jewels from yesterday is not here, huh.

.

[…That’s it. That makes every person living in this city suspicious.]
