Chapter 59-2 – Prejudice Makes the Most Visible Things Hard to See

[Oh, look at what we have right here, it is the same jerk from yesterday!]

.

Sybilla calls out to the guy from the back of the people who talked to them.

Is this what Jannet talks about the rare event Gyaku Nan1?… I think it is.

I can see immediately what Sybilla wants to do though.

.

[Ah! A-aaaaaaaaah! From yesterday….! You guys, run away! This b*tch is bad news!]

[Ei, for our C rank adventurer Mokuyari-senpai to say that this girl is bad, just how bad are you– eh?]

[That blond girl and that mage looking silver haired girl kill gigantos! You better all run for your lives!]

[Eh? Hey, wai- SO FAST!?]

.

The man whose hand Emmy has crushed yesterday ran so fast while calling out the other guys which immediately followed him from behind.

I watch them run with all their might as I arrive beside Sybilla.

.

[Oh, so you were eager to punish every pick up attempt like yesterday so they’ll never get close to you again, huh.]

[Yeah. There are a lot of men who like to pick up and play with girls around here and some of them aim for tourists.]

.

Hm. So she’s planned everything already since the brief exchange between Sybilla and the guy from earlier in the adventurer’s guild.

If those guys’ hands got crushed here in the beach instead while they just look like civilians then it’s our reputation that will be in danger.

.

[…Hey, Russell…. I am not scary, right?… I’m not as scary as a giganto, right?….]

[How can someone as cute as you be scarier than a giganto. Show me the jerk who tells you so and let me rinse his eyes with recovery magic. I’ll also drain his savings.]

.

I’m trying to reassure Emmy but I think she has just gotten worse as she blankly murmurs ‘Cuute… He said I’m cuutteee..ehehe’.

.

[Way to show how to pick up girls, Russell, afufufu — Ouch!]

.

It’s a good thing that I can see right away how this idiot beside me will react which allowed me for a lightning quick chop.

People around us are like [Uwaaaa…] or worse is [Is this domestic violence? That toxic boyfriend…?] or something like that but this is really unfair….

Don’t they know that a single chop is not enough for this girl to behave? Rather, these people don’t know that this girl does various things even though she knows herself that it guarantees I’ll give her a chop without hesitation.

.

Also, you are mistaken on another thing.

I am not her boyfriend.

.

[Anyway, so how is our swimsuit, hm?]

.

Then again, I took a thorough look at both of them. Respectfully.

.

Emmy is wearing a two piece of blue and green covered in frills.

Looking at her gives me this feeling of something refreshing…

.

[I think it suits Emmy pretty well. It looks good on you.]

[Ehehe… I asked Sybilla-san what suits me best and let her choose this for me.]

.

I was curious how she is comfortable wearing it but it seems this isn’t the first time and she’s already used to it.

But I have to say, Sybilla certainly has some good senses in these kinds of things too.

.

Sybilla on the other hand wears a one piece with a hole in the middle. It’s a simple swimsuit.

Compare to Emmy, Sybilla’s swimsuit has less fabric and… as for her figure… the difference on how developed her body is is clearly visible.

.

What’s more, heads turn to Sybilla’s direction regardless of gender.

Do you still remember that you intend to hide from public attention, oh Goddess of Dusk?

.

[Sybilla’s suits her as well but I think it attracts too much attention.]

.

When Sybilla’s chest moves… I mean when Sybilla moves, the world seems to stop for an instant and everyone stops moving with all of their attention focused on one single point.

.

[…Russell doesn’t really look, huh.]

[What so bad about that.]

[Don’t tell me… It’s what Fredrica-san has certainly said, isn’t it? There’s nothing bad about it, in fact it’s the best reaction I have gotten so far.]

.

That’s… A compliment, right?

Putting Sybilla aside, if Fredrica likes it too then… Yeah, let’s just take it at face value.

.

.

.

[By the way…]

.

I check and after confirming that the number of people around us has dwindled, I turn to Sybilla.

.

[…Aren’t you trying to hide from the believers of the Sun Goddess? Is it really alright for you to get too much attention?]

[Ara.]

.

Sybilla crosses her arms as she looks at me with an expression that seemingly says I just said something strange.

.

[Listen here, how can you determine a burglar based on how they look?]

.

…It’s been a while since I saw this goddess-like way of speaking of Sybilla. Why is she the one suddenly asking the question and to a completely different direction too.

Why a burglar? How is this related?

.

[…Something like what Eve initially wore which is torn or way really old as they can’t buy a new one, I think.]

[The correct answer is ‘the people who clothe like an associate baronet’.]

.

…What?

Associate baronets are quite lacking compared to higher ranking nobles but they are still richer than most commoners.

You’re telling me that’s how burglars look?

.

[People who are prudent of their possessions tend to be more wary of those who look like they are lacking money. Then… how about to those who look like they do not need any?]

[Ah!]

.

Someone else reacted in surprise beside me. It’s Emmy.

Ofcourse, I am surprised as well in her way of reasoning.

.

[Even in the royal capital, nobody knows what the emerging nobles look like. That’s why I tend to wear clothes similar to the associate barons even when moving in places with few people or backdoor alleys. Nevertheless, the people who saw me did not show signs of being wary as I look like someone who has money… The truth is back then I didn’t even have a single penny as I used it to buy aristocratic clothes that a real burglar might have been richer than me.]

.

…I see. That indeed can cause a blind spot.

Rich people tend to be less wary of those who show outside that they don’t need money as they lack the reason to steal from them, huh.

.

But this kind of information isn’t something that only Sybilla can know, right?

It sounds convenient so I want to tell Fredrica and Gemma-baa-san as well once we get back in the orphanage.

.

Then, using the same logic, no one will be able to associate Sybilla to her real identity.

The one who should the believers of the Sun Goddess be wary the most, Sybilla the Dusk Goddess.

The same thing applies to me who serves the Dusk Goddess and should avoid getting attention to hide the fact that I can use dark magic.

.

So she is making her move in consideration of these kinds of things…

.

…No, wait… This is Sybilla we’re talking about, though…?

.

.

[In other words, I am hiding. Standing in the middle of this sandy place surrounded by people taking away their attention, there’s no one in here that will think that I am someone who is hiding away from something, isn’t it?]

.

Sybilla looks so proud of herself as she puts her hand on her waist.

Emmy beside me can’t help admiring her muttering ‘Sybilla-san is so smart’… but.

.

Now’s the time to get straight to the point.

.

[Then your real intention is?]

[I am serious about half of the things I said. As for the other half, I want to use this swimsuit to get some attention! But if my identity gets discovered then that’s the time I’ll think how to get past to it, I guess?]

.

I thought so!

Now look at Emmy honestly praising Sybilla earlier, she looks like someone who’s eaten some dirt.

.

See? Emmy. This is what Sybilla is really like.

Perhaps you can now understand my attitude with Sybilla, right?

.

.

As I look in amazement how Sybilla can still look so proud after telling me her real intentions–

.

[—–Kyaaaaaaaaaa!!]

.

A woman’s scream coming from the beach came into our ears.

We look towards each other and after confirming we’re thinking of doing the same thing, we run towards the direction where the scream came from.

.

What we found something that shouldn’t be in here.

.

[…Needle Rabbit!? In such a place fully crowded of people like this beach!?]

.

It appeared in front of us along with Sybilla’s scream… An existence that shouldn’t be in here, a monster.

.

I am now once again in a situation where I don’t know what’s going on… I remember the feeling of helplessness falling into an ‘unexpected’ situation. I put my attention not into the monster, but on to the things that lie beyond what brought us into such a situation.

.

We are supposed to take a break but it seems our new battle has just begun.
