CCM 54 – Yo, I’m not the Sword Saint – He’s Over There

I don’t know exactly when but I can now finally move my body.

It’s probably due to the sudden appearance of this gigantic shadow.

The mage that was holding me down must have lost his wits upon seeing the monster’s surprising arrival.

–But more importantly, this monster is too problematic.

It’s my first time seeing such a monster that’s why I have no idea how I am supposed to fight it. I can only hope for the best.

I look at the top of the audience seat once again just to see the Sword Saint Leon Makuba whose face has gone so pale froze in place.

Asking for Dudley Claise as well would be pointless.

He shows no sign of standing up or whatever after being blown away by the gigantic shadow.

How unfortunate it may be, these are your proud escorts of the royalties, the Makuba family.

I really can’t expect anything from these two at all.

…Well, not that I expect anything from them in the first place.

[–It has appeared once again, hasn’t it.]

And suddenly, a familiar voice saying those words has reached my ears.

A voice coming from a girl whose beauty is like no other.

A pleasing hymn unblemished by any sort of imperfection — a sound only possible coming from a Goddess.

Standing beside me with an affectionate smile on her face is the Goddess Dies whom I’ve seen a couple of times when I travelled between time and space. The woman who’s been talking with the first sword saint, Fauras Makuba.

For some reason, the Goddess seems like she can’t be perceived by anyone else in the stadium. Her presence in this place is only visible to me.

Looking closely though, isn’t everybody else including the shadow has stopped on a standstill?

Perhaps the Goddess took notice of my doubts as she looked at me and smiled.

[I have stopped the flow of time for a bit. It won’t be funny if we got attacked all of a sudden.]

[Fufu, you’ll be able to do this as well if you keep on improving on your skill, you know.]

What else can I say except she really is a God.

Though, the Goddess’ expression turns grim as she looks towards the shadow and resumes speaking.

[This monster is called the Solitary’s Shadow, Vanitas Roar… A monster that once ravaged the lands of the kingdom. If I have to measure it’s danger using the standard of this generation, I’m afraid it won’t fit with any of your currently existing measures.]

[I see…]

Looks like my guess was right. This giant shadow – Vanitas Roar, is the strongest monster that I have ever seen.

.

[–Nonetheless, I believe you can prevail over this monstrosity.]

.

The Goddess, looking at me with hope and resolution, took hold of both of my hands.

.

[I am pleading to you. Please help them. Though things won’t end after just defeating this monster, please…. Help to cut all the ties that’s been binding down this kingdom for centuries.]

.

Right after–

The Goddess has planted her lips on top of my cheek.

.

[Ah…]

[I put my faith in you. To you, the true sword saint.]

[..The true sword saint…]

The first sword saint did talk about the same thing before… of what a true sword saint is.

.

Then, the body of the Goddess Dies has started to fade. At this rate, her body will completely vanish in just a few seconds.

[…My time has run out, it seems.]

When the Goddess separated her lips from my cheeks, she laid her eyes on me with sadness slightly brimming with tears.

[The monster Vanitas Roar will put everyone in danger. As such, I recommend for you to use your cheat code, <Absorption>.]

[Absorption, is it…]

But even so, I haven’t been able to make use of that ability before.

Will it be able to help against the Vanitas Roar?

[Furthermore, please do not forget to use  <Rewriting of Target’s Attack Powers> to reduce it’s attack power. — If it’s you, I am certain that you will be able to achieve victory.]

[Goddess-sama…]

[My heart is with you, Arios…]

After saying so, that Goddess has finally vanished. 

.

Immediately after — the flow of time that’s been arbitrarily stopped earlier has continued to move.

.

[GGOooooooogggoOOAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!]

The Vanitas Roar then raised both of its hands up high into the air while it’s two crimson eyes radiated sinister gleams.

.

This is bad.

As an immediate response, I activated hurriedly <Rewriting of Target’s Attack Powers> to reduce it’s attack powers to a quarter.

.

[Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahh!!!!!!!!!!]

.

I expected this but the Vanitas Roar really unleashes an indiscriminate attack all over its surroundings by releasing jet black flames all over its body. 

.

[Wa-waaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!]

[Hel—-]

[Mama…!!]

Shouts and screams reverberate all over the place.

.

The flames aren’t travelling that fast towards the populace but the evacuation is taking time due to the size of the crowd.

.

Regardless, I have to activate my next ability immediately.

Ofcourse, it’s what the Goddess has said to me before, <Absorption>.

It’s effect remains foreign to me but I put my faith in the words of the Goddess.

Then.

[Kyaaaaaa!!!]

[Pleae, noo, pleaaseeeee!!!!!!!!!]

.

Right before the flames devour the audience and the arena as a whole, a miracle has occurred.

.

The flames unnaturally moved and changed their direction towards me.

–It’s as if I, and only myself, will be absorbing the heat and the flames’ ferocity.

.

[I see… That’s what she meant huh…]

.

This explains why I wasn’t able to notice notable changes when I activated Absorption when doing my quests.

Unlike the current situation, I was fighting alone back then and before anything, all of the attacks of the enemies were already aimed at me.

Furthermore, by activating <Rewriting of Target’s Attack Powers> and reducing its attack powers to a quarter, I feel no fear taking these flames head on at all.

.

[Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!]

.

With a sword in my hand, I cut the flames coming at me one after the other. With the innate effect of my treasured sword Levati, even the flames that fell nearby also disappeared.

.

[eh…?]

[The flames… how…?]

[Oi, don’t tell me… Arios is protecting us…?]

.

After exterminating all the flames, I can’t help but raise my voice and shout towards the audience that still haven’t evacuated.

[Please escape already! This monster — just leave it to me!!]

[Soo- so cool…]

[A sword saint…?]

I heard the audience muttered so.
